Fabric Line Found!

Within an hour of posting a discussion thread on Flickr in the Fresh Modern Quilts group, I had an answer on the fabric line for the bundles I purchased at JoAnn's.  Amazing!

Thanks to SunflowerQuilt I now know the fabric is from the Linden collection by Melissa Saylor for P&B Textiles.  Now don't go out buying what little is left out there, ok?  :)

Fabric for my new niece!

My sister-in-law is pregnant and last night I found out that I will be gaining another niece in September!  Yay!  I'm super excited.

My sister-in-law has asked me to make a quilt and a bumper for her nursery.  I'm really looking forward to being able to make the quilt for my little niece.  She wants to decorate the nursery using purples and yellows.  Needless to say, I was pretty excited to find the fabrics bundles a couple weeks ago at JoAnn's.

Unfortunately, these fabric bundles do not come with salvages, so I need your help!  I'd really like to purchase some yardage so I can make the matching bumper for the crib.  Do you know what this fabric line is?  If you do, do you know where I can find it?

I hope someone out there knows what line this super cute fabric is from!

Fabric Bundles

I recently discovered that the fabric bundle bin at my local JoAnn's often has a great selection of fat quarter bundles of older quilt shop fabrics.  Not only are they are quality fabrics, they're also cheap.  These bundles are $9.99 full price so that means they could be between $5-$7 depending on which coupon or sale price you use.  Not too bad for 5 fat quarters!

The bundle on the left is from an old Moda line that my mother-in-law used to make a quilt for Shawn and me for our wedding.  The blues are the Shade Garden line that I used in my zig zag quilt that I completed earlier this year.  I nearly bought a fat quarter of one of those purple prints last weekend at a quilt shop.  I was thrilled to find two bundles to use for a potential baby girl quilt for my sister-in-law.  I need to see if I can find some yardage to go with it though.  And who knows what that bright and black bundle is-  I just think it's fun!

I think this discovery is going to get me into trouble.  I'm a sucker for a good deal!

Spring to Finish

I have a lot of unfinished projects.  This is no secret around our house.  Luckily, Jacquie has kicked off her annual Spring to Finish.

spring to finish big

I have made it my goal to finish 4 of my quilts that are in various stages of completion before May 31st.

Here are the ones I'd like to finish up:

Hunky Dory disappearing nine-patch

On the Road to Spring

New Wave baby quilt

Pinwheel sampler

Not to mention all of the bee blocks I need to catch up on and the new ironing board cover I'd like to make.  Ambitious?  Yes.  Do able?  Maybe.

90 Degrees

For April in the Scrappy Bee, Andrea send us some scraps from the Freebird line by Momo.  She requested that we make a block that only uses right angles.  A girl after my own heart.

After checking out her blog and photostream, I gathered that she generally tends towards geometric designs.  I decided to try to go with that in my block designs.  I am not sure I fully captured the geometric element, but I did what I could do.

I actually put a lot of thought and planning into this block.  Unfortunately, I think it would have been better executed in a nonscrappy bee.  I do like the result, it's just different than what I originally envisioned.

In my second block I used up every last bit of scraps but wasn't able to make the full 12.5" square block.  My goal with the second block was to have this scrappy and piecey border around the framed center.  I think it would have looked really great so I was bummed I didn't have enough to finish it off.

Little me- Featured!

Earlier this month I was contacted by Jocelyn of the Fat Quarter Shop to ask for permission to use a photo of one of my quilts for an article she was writing for Sew4Home.   What?! Me?! Sheesh!  Of course I said yes!

Last week the article was posted!  She was writing about Moda precuts and featured this photo of Wonderland quilt using charm packs.

Done- and it's so nice!

I'm done studying!  Yay!  I think it went all right, but I'll know for sure in 10-12 weeks.  Let's hope and pray that I don't have to go through that again!

Now that I don't have studying to do, this weekend was full of FUN stuff.  On Saturday I went fabric shopping with a friend, went to a bridal shower, and then Shawn and I spent the evening in downtown Detroit for a celebratory dinner.  It's restaurant week downtown so we were able to go to the 24 Grille without paying a fortune.  It was still on the pricey side, but it was a celebratory occasion so it's ok, right?  The food was incredible too.

Before going to dinner, Shawn and I walked around downtown for a bit.  Downtown Detroit is a pretty place- especially along the Detroit River.  The odd part of the evening was that the streets were empty.  I'm not sure if it were just because it was cold out or not.  I always think of Detroit as a "big city" but I think Ann Arbor has a busier downtown on a Saturday night.  It's kind of sad actually.  The city is full of big, beautiful buildings reminiscent of better times that are a stark contrast to the current condition of the city.  The restaurant was packed, but I suspect that it was mostly people like Shawn and myself- visitors from the suburbs.

Yesterday I was able to get back to sewing.  So exciting!  I was able to finish up a top and I started quilting it.

I am hoping to finish the quilting tonight.  I think that hope may fall into the unreasonable category, but I tend to be over ambitious with the amount of things I can accomplish.

Pinwheels: Week Five

This weekend I finally got around to taking photos for the blocks I finished up a couple weeks ago for the pinwheel quilt-a-long.

Love it:

Hate it:

I guess there has to be one you're not crazy about, right?

Taking it Outdoors

There has been beautiful weather this weekend here in Michigan.  I decided to take advantage of it as much as possible and take my studying outdoors for a bit today.

I also took some time to snap some photos of some flowers.  I love this time of year.

Welp, now back to the books.

Winner winner chicken dinner

Over at the Twiddletails blog, Anina was celebrating her three year blog birthday and was giving away a fat quarter to ten winners.I was lucky enough to be one of them!  Exciting!
I picked the Wild Thyme Pods in orange.  A very cute addition indeed.  Thank you, Anina! :)
