New Career Possibility?

Shortly before I left for vacation I was laid off from my job.  Now that I am back home I have been contemplating what my next step should be.  Do I find another engineering job?  Are there even any structural engineering jobs in my area?  Do I find a job in another field and change careers?  What on earth would I choose?!  Or do I embrace the job of housewife and volunteer somewhere?

One option might be to become a professional contest entrant.  You see, lately I have been pretty lucky in the giveaway department and have won again.  Maybe I could also win us a new car, ice cream for a year, and some cash.   That doesn't sound too bad to me.

Hmm, tough decision! I'm in my first job after getting out of grad school, and am dreading the time that this this job (contract) will be over. I find looking for jobs a scary prospect, though I think it could be *exciting*, think of all the possibilities to reinvent yourself - as long as there's a nice financial buffer in the bank of someone else can help you out with bills... (partner, family, etc).

I'll be curious to hear how you weather these decisions :)

Sorry that you got the big L.O. I did, too, over a year ago. Good luck finding a new job. Or whatever you decide. Too bad you can't apply for the contest of a new job. Then you'd be in the pink! ;)

I'm so sorry to hear that! It's so tough out there right now but keep your chin up. I got laid off a year some time ago and it was a blessing because I found my dream job!

Until then... I hope your giveaway luck continues!

ooh, sorry to hear about the job; been there, done that, you'll be OK, you clearly have professional skills that can serve you well... moving on to your other plan...have you ever watched "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio"? I think you'll like the movie :)

Sorry to hear about your job... there's always TSU :P Even though it's nervewracking, enjoy your time off while you job hunt. I envy you having some time to think through the next step.

Oh wow, what a bummer to get that news, especially right before going on vacation. It's always tough job hunting, and especially these days. I hope you find inspiration for which direction to forward in.

I'm job hunting, too. I've been staying home with my kids, but this isn't the best time to go back to work. Of course, I'm a teacher, so if I don't get a job in the next week, I'll be looking again next year.

I'm so sorry to hear about your job! I had no idea. And that's awful that it happened right before vacation, too.

Have you had any luck finding anything? Did you end up going to seminary?
