Giveaway Day!

Today is the May Giveaway Day sponsored by Sew Mama Sew.  Exciting!

To celebrate, I will be giving away some fat quarters and one of my favorite notions.

First, I have for you five fat quarters from Michelle Engel Benscko's line Shade Garden.  These fabrics are featured in my Shady Zig Zags quilt

Second, you will have a chance to win a Sewline mechanical fabric pencil.  This pencil is awesome!  As I was working on my Christmas quilt I realized the need for a good fabric pencil.  The method I am using to make the flying geese requires markings and I was becoming increasingly frustrated with inexpensive pencils that wouldn't write and fabric markers that disappeared.  So, I decided to splurge and purchase one of the Sewline pencils.  Best decision I could have made!  It marks wonderfully, can be erased, and there are lead refills that you can buy in a variety of different colors

To enter, please leave a comment describing your favorite sewing project.  It can be a quilt, purse, or clothing.  Be as descriptive as possible and leave links if you like!  You have until 11:59pm on Thursday, May 20th to enter!  I will post a winner on Friday morning! Good luck!

Oh my favorite sewing project was a quilt I recently pieced. It is a stacked coin variation and it was so quick and easy to do. It is a variety of bright batik fabrics with a dark brown sashing. It is a favorite among my family and friends, if only I could finish it (quilt & bind). I would link, but there are no pictures of it up on my blog yet because I'm a horrible blogger.

My favorite sewing project was a braided rug I made over a years span. It used Calicos from my husband's grandma and scraps given me by anybody who would. It sits under my dining room table and is the biggest project I've actually completed. It's multicolored with a dark ring around the outside. Bring much color into a plain room.

my favorite project of this year involves two fat quarter quilts i made for my girls to go with their newly painted room. they were made with anna maria horner's folksy flannel fat quarter bundles and we all love them! i also made pillow cases and a small, log cabin style, pillow cover for a throw pillow.

there is a picture in my blog banner..:)

My favorite project was this shirt for my daughter: http://msfineprint.wordpress.com/2009/03/02/one-peasant-shirt-check/

I had never made a shirt without a cut out pattern before, had to adjust a lot of the measurements from the written description from a blog and *gasp* had to freehand the curve for the sleeves. It turned out so well--and then I took time to embroider some kitties on it. A week ago when I was going through DDs summer clothes, she nearly cried when I told her it was too small to keep wearing. That is the sign of a good sewing project!

My favorite sewing projects are projects that I make with a specific person in mind. The entire time I'm working on the project I think about them and pray for them.

It gives the process and the finished project so much more meaning to me.

my favorite projects have been the disappearing 9 patch quilts I've been churning out lately. I've followed a few quilt alongs - at distantpickles.blogspot.com and obsessivelystitching.blogspot.com - and they're an aweseome beginner quilt. Quick to come together, but so scrappy looking in the end!

For the paintbox I ordered both the classic and bright kona rolls and just picked the colors out that I wanted - had matching fabric for. The bright was too light overall and the classic was darker overall - and there were so many colors that looked almost exactly the same! But I made sure that I had a few strips of each main color in different shades.

I love embroidering pillowcases. There is just something so old-school refined in making an everyday object beautiful. I can't remember the fabric designer, but the fabric is called applewood fairies I think. It was a panel that I augmented with another panel of coordinating small flower squares. There were also tiny squares that were 2x2. I just sat down and figured a way I thought it looked good. The real feat in this quilt was the free motion quilting that I used to highlight and outline the pictures. see it here http://stitchinpenny.blogspot.com/2009/04/annies-quilt.html

My favorite sewing project was the Authentic quilt I just made using the Merry-Go-Round pattern. Every block I put together, I just had to step back and thought, I like this one best. But I like them all and Love the quilt.

My favorite sewing project right now is a wonky star quilt made of vintage sheets and a beautiful dark gray fabric (similar to Kona Coal). Thanks for the great giveaway!

I think on of my favorite projects was a purse I made out of vintage sheets. I was actually supposed to be my practice purse before I used my "good" fabric, but I ended up liking so much, it became my summer purse. In fact, I need to wash it and start using it again.

IMy favorite project of late has been this quilt top I just finished. This was the first time I used a honey bun but it was really simple. I sewed three strips together with the light colors in the middle then cut them into squares. I alternated the honeybun squares with plain white ones setting them on an angle. I love the way it turned out and I really love the bright and happy colors.

Thank you for the chance to win those super cool goodies!

Lucky you winning the ohFransson giveaway that I so wanted to win. I usually like my current project best so that is why I'm probably working on several at one time. I get so excited about so many things that I want to get to them 'now' and not later. My future all time favorite project is going to be restoring my great great grandmother's hand sewn quilt that has major holes in it from me sleeping with it for so many years when I was a child.

My favorite sewing project at the moment would have to be making pretty dressess for my daughters. They enjoy picking out the pattern and fabric and I enjoy sewing it for them.

We moved half way across the country last week and so my sewing projects have to wait until I'm settled in properly. I can hardly wait to get back to all the fun things I have started.

Thanks for having this great giveaway. I would be thrilled to win.

1.) You won the Oh Fransson fabric? Jealousy engaged.
2.) I'm a Michigan blogger, too!
3.) Favorite project. Too many to name, so here's one: the current project that I'm daydreaming about most is a churn dash twin bed quilt for my next child (even though I'm not even pregnant). I've decided to use my favorite color, turquoise, which I haven't used in a quilt yet. Can't wait!

Hopefully that takes you to a strip quilt, with 1 print row and 1 solid row, when I started it I really didn't like it but as I added rows I fell in Love. Check out all my photos on flickr, there are some family quilts on there too, they are my favorite favorites.

Oh! I love your quilt!

My favorite project thus far is a Black Apple doll I made for my kiddo. I made it smaller than called for, which meant it was kind of a pain, but she's ridiculously amused by it so it's worth it.

Mind, at 1.5 years, she's also ridiculously amused by a washcloth, so yeah.

My favorite project is a quilt made entirely of my late grandmother's fabric in shades of purple that I am currently thinking through. Then I plan to hand stitch the quilt with a lavender pattern - she loved lavender. I might add a sachet into it too. This is the first quilt I will make just for me. It's special because she's the one who taught me to sew and to quilt and to love creating.

My favorite sewing project of the year is the duvet cover I made for my son's room. We were set to move to Germany for about 2-3 years (now it turns out we're coming back to Texas after just 9 mos here!!) and I wanted to take some Texas with us. I used Michael Miller's Lil Cowpoke fabric and matched it up with red fabric with white stars for the rather large squares. The edging was done with dark chambray fabric. A friend had just given me a dark brown sheet to use for a project, so that became the back of the duvet cover.

Oh, I love that fabric. My favorite sewing project is the quilt that I made for my Mother In Law. It was Christmas around the year and had appliqué of Santa in each block representing each month of the year. It was my first quilt and started my love for the hobby.

My favorite project was a confort set I made for my Mom before a long hospital stay. I made a lap quilt, small pillow and lavendar eye pillow. I found a pink flamingo flannel, backed the quilt with bright pink fleece and used a green binding. She loved it and it provided her an additional level of comfort during her recovery.

Thanks!

My favorite project was a breast cancer tote I made for my MIL after her reconstructive surgery. When we were able to go up to see her after her surgery that day I gave her the purse/tote which I had filled with all sorts of pink things. She loved it and now has a new favorite body wash which she was thrilled with because of her lack of ability of taking baths. She used that for the sponge baths and loved the scent. The purse/tote really turned out wonderful with the fabrics I'd chosen and then the added machine embroidery I had done on it. This should link to a post where I posted the pictures. http://www.embroidables.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19245&postcount=7
(I'm sorry the link is not to my own blog. I still haven't figured out how to create one although the space and addy has already been created for me to put one up.)
I am super excited about your giveaway because I have been wanting one of the Sewline pencils for a very long time but just wasn't sure if they worked. I'm glad to see you love them and recommend them because if I don't win I will be more apt to buy one now. Thank you.
